2. Ruffled necklines
The classic turtleneck has gotten a facelift! The runways were littered with super exaggerated and ruffled necklines these past few weeks. From left to right, Marc Jacobs, Missoni, Gucci, Tory Burch, and Chloé all featured frilly necklines in their collections. These details are highly reminiscent of Victorian/Edwardian fashion…aka the epitome of dainty femininity. But it’s 2019, ladies, so in many looks the fragile femininity of the ruffled necklines was juxtaposed by the masculinity of a blazer or suit jacket. These ruffled necklines ruffled my feathers in the best way possible 😉.
3. 80’s shoulder padding
Dig up the old Ghost Busters VHS tape and turn up the Paula Abdul hits because the 80s are back! Well, at least the colossal shoulder padding of the 80s is. Yes, huge 80s shoulders were a major trend I noticed as I clicked through countless collections! When you feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders, I guess it can’t hurt to have a little extra padding there, right? From left to right, Alexa Chung, Saint Laurent, Prabal Gurung, Moschino, and Balmain all emphasized the shoulders in many of their silhouettes. Time to go thrifting for some 80s treasures? I certainly think so 😌.
